Olden Days Transport

This week room 8 have been learning about transport in the olden days. After reading books, watching some videos and talking about olden days transport, our first activity was to make Pic Collages. These included pictures of olden days transport like Penny Farthings, horse and carts, horses, old cars and more! When we finished our Pic Collages, we did some writing about olden days transport. Finally, on Friday in T & E we made models of olden days carts. Students were given a stack of popsticks, a piece of cardboard, a roll of tape and an A3 sheet of brown card.  In pairs, students collaborated to plan, create and evaluate their carts. The results were great!

Happy Mother's Day!

Last week we had a lot of fun making biscuits and doing art activities for Mother's Day. We made our biscuits in small groups following a procedure that we read and then watched Miss Fouweather and Mrs Van Bavel demonstrate. Check out the slideshow below to see us making our biscuits and our flower pictures.

We hope all the mums had a great Mother's Day and loved our presents! :)

Welcome back for Term 2!

Welcome back to school for term 2.

A few reminders:

Your child will bring home a new reading book twice a week which needs to be read each evening. Please sign off that your child has read to you. We have just had our first student reach 40 nights of reading - well done Jorja!! In addition to home reading, Room 8 will visit the Library each Tuesday. Please supply your child with a book bag so they are able to borrow books.

Each day we will have morning fitness and Phys Ed is on Wednesdays. In order to fully participate, suitable footwear is required i.e running shoes and every child is required to wear a school bucket hat for all outdoor activities.

Children are encouraged to have a water bottle (water only) in the classroom to sip during the day. We are also a “Crunch and Sip” school and ask that you provide your child with cut up fruit or vegetables each day.

If you would like to help in our classroom by listening to students read their reading books or sight words, we would love for you to come in between 8.50 and 9.30am. If you are able to help, please write your name on the classroom roster outside Room 8.

Parent meetings begin on Monday the 5th of May. If you have not yet arranged a time to meet with me, please let me know a suitable time as shown on the timetable sent home with your child. If these times are not suitable, please contact me for an alternate arrangement.

Term 1 Highlights

Our first day of school!

Mathematics
Addition Strategies

Turnarounds.
Students had to find sums that were 'turned around' as matching pairs. (4 + 3 / 3 + 4)

Rainbow facts.
Students glued fruit loops onto a rainbow to represent different addition sums to equal 10.
We also played a rainbow facts board game. Students had to roll 2 ten sided dice. If the sum of the 2 dice equalled 10 they could take a counter.

Doubles.
Students rolled a dice and had to double that number and place a counter on top of the answer.

Literacy

We practice our spelling words in many different ways. We use Play-Doh, chalk, magnets and more!

Writing with feathers and ink.
We are learning about the olden days. In the olden days they wrote with feathers and ink. We just had to give it a go ourselves!
It was tricky!

In the olden days they sometimes used slate boards to write on.
We made our own slate boards with a fact about the olden days written on it.

Assembly
On the 4th of April we had our assembly. We were the first class at Treendale Primary School to host an assembly!! We worked hard to prepare our item. As a class, we re-wrote the words to 'The House that Jack Built' and changed it to 'The School that We Built'. Everyone participated and had something to say into the microphone. It was a fantastic assembly. Thank you parents for supporting us and coming back for morning tea afterwards. If you have any photos or videos of our assembly item, Miss Fouweather would love a copy to display in the class.

Easter Hat Parade
On the last day of term 4, Treendale Primary School held it's first ever Easter Hat Parade. We each made our own hats to show in the parade.
